I am a figurative oil painter whose work explores the juxtaposition between human interaction and loneliness. Themes of isolation, desire, and loss are at the center of my art. My work is about the deeply rooted human need to connect with others. I use dynamic gestures, repeating figures, and entangled body parts to communicate engagement, high energy, and life, while the colors suggest decay, disconnection, and clawing desperation. We are social beings and one of the most painful emotions is loneliness. My paintings are clusters of bodies searching, groping, struggling to find intimacy. This driving desire for intimacy is overwhelming and totally engulfing. My figures are entangled, pushing and pulling away from each other. They are in a desperate struggle because loneliness is constant; it is an internal isolation that can exist even in spaces that are full of people. This is the loop of rumination that lack of connection brings. How do we make meaningful connections in the world today? My work explores our need to be seen and accepted.
